The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of SportsAid, joined thirty 16 to 20-year-old athletes at a workshop this week designed to help them on their journey to the Olympic or Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 or PyeongChang in 2018.

Hosted by GSK at its cutting-edge Human Performance Lab in west London, the athletes took part in a series of scientific assessments on respiration, temperature, power, cognition and body composition before joining a mentoring session with Olympic swimmer Keri-anne Payne and having the chance to meet Paralympic wheelchair athlete David Weir CBE.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended the launch of a fundraising campaign this week to help East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) build a new £10 million hospice in Norfolk.

Hundreds of guests at the appeal launch attended from across Norfolk and beyond including individuals, businesses, charitable trusts, voluntary and community groups who had the opportunity to learn about the appeal and see how they can help.

Two of New York City’s leading youth organizations – The Door and The CityKids Foundation – welcomed Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for a tour and youth performance, including original song, dance and theater pieces, during their first official visit to New York City.

Additionally the Duke and Duchess sat down for a private meeting with eight young people from The Door and The CityKids Foundation to learn more about their experiences growing up in New York City, the obstacles they faced, and the steps they took to shape who they are today.

The Duchess of Cambridge spent a fun evening with a group of Beaver Scouts – and learnt to eat a chocolate bar while wearing a boxing glove.



Her Royal Highness, who is an occasional volunteer with the Scout Association, was reduced to giggles as she joined the youngsters who were having a practical lesson in living with a disability.

NBA All-star Carmelo Anthony, who plays for the New York Knicks, gave His Royal Highness the enormous right boot he had signed on its toe and a team vest emblazoned with the name “Wales” above the number 15.

The Duchess of Cambridge this week visited Barlby Primary School in London to officially name Clore Art Room, a facility dedicated to providing creative therapy to young people.

Her Royal Highness is Royal Patron of The Art Room, the charity behind the new project, which maintains a dedicated art room in a number of schools in Oxfordshire, Edinburgh and London.

Prince Harry this week met charity fundraisers at Twickenham Stadium who were taking part in this year’s London Marathon to raise money for charities supported by himself and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

His Royal Highness watched about 60 athletes who were being put through their paces in a training session at the stadium, the home of England Rugby, ahead of the 26.2 mile marathon in April.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Royal Patron of the children’s mental health charity Place2Be, has recorded a video message to support the UK’s first Children’s Mental Health Week.

In the message, Her Royal Highness says that both she and The Duke of Cambridge have seen that many children are struggling to cope with the impact of issues such as bullying, bereavement, family breakdown and more, which for some young people can lead to depression anxiety, addiction and self-harm if they don’t get appropriate support. The Duchess says that stigma around mental health means that many children do not get the help they so badly need, which needs to change.

The Duchess of Cambridge has sent a special message to The Times, calling for a new attitude on child mental health.

“I believe that our generation of parents, carers, teachers, and health workers now have the chance to give the mental health of our children the focus it requires,” she wrote. “I feel strongly that young people and parents need to know that they can ask for help. Just as with physical health, we need to act early to provide support when a child is faced with emotional difficulties.”

The message comes as part of The Times’ Time to Mind campaign, which has also had support from Peter Gabriel, Paloma Faith, Neil Gaiman and more, and calls for more support for child mental health.

Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge, as Royal Patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), is supporting Children’s Hospice Week and has released the following statement.

“Around the clock support is crucial for children receiving palliative care. They and their families often need help every hour of every day, both in hospices and at home. As Patron of EACH, I have seen first-hand this remarkable and varied work and just how vital the support of staff and volunteers can be to the families of children with life limiting conditions. It has been wonderful to see the fantastic public support for Children’s Hospice Week over the last few days. Please continue supporting your local children’s hospice in whatever way you can.”

Children’s Hospice Week (which runs from 13th – 20th June this year) is the UK’s only awareness raising and fundraising week for children with life-limiting conditions and the services, like children’s hospices, that support them.
